St. Clair Software recently announced a new version of Default Folder that
includes a scripting addition that purportedly sets the default directory,
even for Nav services dialogs. I've had some spotty results with it... it
runs find on my old PowerBook 3400, using AppleScript 1.4, but not on my
desktop G4, which has AS 1.4.3. Even on the G4, it runs OK from the script
editor and from a droplet, but freezes up when the script is saved as an
applet. I wonder if anyone else has had any success with this OSAX?

And does it make sense that Apple would not include this functionality as
part of the Standard Additions?
