I'm just curious...why do you want to run OS X?

Cal,
I want to stay ahead of the curve.
And I use UNIX everyday already. (I am one of those people Chuq mentioned
reads the list via "pine" occasionally.) I feel like MacOS is a bit of a
enigma wrapped in a paradox. It is difficult (for me anyway) to know why
something is happening. IE, I am not a developer on Apple's program, can't
afford it. There are so many "mysteries" of why and how something occurs
with MacOS as it stands. I will welcome the change whole-heartedly.
I expect MacOS X to be the marriage of my two favorite OSes. The warm &
loving feeling of my favorite GUI, and the stability and understandability
of Unix/BSD (I hope). I have been using Mac OS for more than 15 years... I
am not about to leave.
But I am not a scripter "all day". I am using applescripting to improve my
efficiency, and to move on to more interesting tasks. I will like having a
prompt. More direct interface for some tasks, etc. "diff", "grep", "sed"...
simple stuff, really.
I hope that I can make Perl & Java work (better) and I also hope to make
more sense out of the filesystem. I like the idea of XML syntax for
resources (bundling). I expect to understand how to get 'under the hood'
with this system. I like that.
