I just happened to use the software update panel a few minutes before
reading your message; I did not see Applescript 1.6 there. So, after
reading the above, I checked, and found that one of the things that the
OS X installer did was update the Classic version of Script Editor (and,
I would assume, all of Applescript, but I didn't check) to 1.6.
