That's the official line from Apple, as it was with AppleScript 1.5.5.
However, as noted in my AppleScript 1.5.5 report, one hardy exlporer
reported that 1.5.5 did work in older systems if you put the older
AppleScriptLib file back into the Extension folder along with it. Some
similar trick could conceivably work with AppleScript 1.6 -- but I wouldn't
trust important data to it.
