Folder IDs

I have a unique question. I'm looking for a way to remove the contents of a
folder hierarchy from visibility on an NT volume. This hierarchy is
referenced by an alias located on certain users' Macintosh workstations. I
can't rename the folders because the alias will still point to the original
hierarchy regardless. Is there another ID number (file system maybe?) that
is within reach of AppleScript so that I can simply point the aliases to
another hierarchy and then back after performing some backups?

Thanks.

Phil
