I've had exactly the same problem and have been unable to come up with a

solution. I'm running AS 1.6 under Mac OS 9.1 on a G4 box w/o a network.

And you know in playing around with URL Access Scripting (UAS) I am getting
the feeling that someone wasn't fully awake when writing it. IT bombs a lot
(yes, I've read the threads about third-party scripting additions) and it
doesn't do stuff it says it does (per my post). I took out every Scripting
addition except Standard Additions and UAS and then slowly added them back
in, never getting an error at any time until I had them all in (and yes I
tried them in different replacement order) and then the third time I called
UAS from within my script it would bomb. Every time. IF anyone wants the
script I will be more than happy to send it to them. I just wanted to make
a good GUI for UAS to upload and download some stuff, just a very basic and
quick easy to use interface for some FTPing. Doesn't seem possible now with
these inconsistent and weird problems.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get UAS working?
Bill Cheeseman, if you are listening, please tell them at WWDC how badly
some of us need tools like UAS. It's good to know that AppleScript is sixth
on the list of things to be worked on.
I propose:
set asList to {"URL Access Scripting","Open Transport Controls","Whose
clauses","Better GUI elements from inside AppleScript"}
copy asList to the end of developersWishList
