All mailing lists are like this - in fact most social, educational, and professional environments are too - we have a healthy mix of novice and advanced subjects and everything in between.
This list is purely representative of those who ask questions and make themselves heard, so if all you see are advanced threads then it is because that is what is interesting to those who speak up - no one has time to stop and pamper the nameless folks who don't chime in but somehow feel discouraged, though likewise no one is here intentionally to discourage newbies (quite the contrary!).
