Indeed it can. See Bill Brigg's articles which discuss almost exactly this
procedure at

which discusses how to do it Reel Quick Like.

It'd just be a question for you of working out how to do upper -> lower and
replace spaces with _. A simple ASCII +/- 32 and a replace should serve.
