Well, it was enough of an issue that Apple pulled the Mac OS X installer,
and when posting the new one urged people with the original installer to
delete it. Apple also said that if the original installer had run OK there
was no need to get the new installer and run it again.
(Based on MacCentral story; I'm unable to find the original Apple
information, but that's nothing new: I usually give up finding something
in Apple's "Knowledge Base" after about 10 minutes of slow-loading,
unhelpful screens, from many of which one can't go "back".)
