The upshot is that I've now tried more or less all of the possible
combinations, and the machine only locks up when you attempt to quit Fetch
if *BOTH* (i) Fetch is launched with the applescript, and (ii) virtual
memory is off.
Excellent detective work! I've seen this problem, but hadn't made
the VM connection. Apparently one option is upgrading to 9.2.1 -- I
haven't seen the freeze on a 9.2.1 machine.
I've seen this problem in another scriptable program of mine also,
and wondered whether there was something about the way I implemented
scripting support that causes the freezes. I'd be curious to hear if
people have seen these freezes with any other applications.
