Frank,
The following website has a few nice tutorials for beginning with scripting
QuarkXPress.
http://members.aol.com/Nyhthawk/welcome.html
The tutorials are in PDF format and I've found them extremely easy to follow
and understand. The site hasn't been updated since May of 1997. YIKES! Well,
I guess the author of the site has been pretty busy since becoming The
AppleScript Product Manager for Apple Computer. ;-)
Scrool down the page and look for:
1. QuarkXPress Basics
2. Text and Picture Box Bounds
3. Filters and Checks
4. How To: DataBase Publishing Lesson 1
Great stuff and still, pretty much relevant.

For more advanced stuff you should really dig into the documents folder that
comes with QuarkXPress
Advanced Scripting Document
Chapter 4-Advanced Scripting
You'll refer to these often, so print 'em if you can.

A book: AppleScripting QuarkXPress by Shirley Hopkins. I don't have it, but
I've heard it's very good. It's on my ChrishmasWishLish!

Finally, and this is just my opinion, any free script written by David Lloyd
makes for great reference material.

Okay, finally, finally, don't forget, posting a question here usually
receives a well informed response from Hans or Shane. Those two fellas
should get together and write a book. Forget about explaining Applescript
guys. Just fill it with questions and answers posted here and call it
something like "Scripting Snips and Workaround's for QuarkXPress" by Hans
and Shane. (Hell, I'd buy it! - I know that title sounds silly, but say it
like those two comedians on SNL who used to do the bad Arnold Schwartznegger
impressions would - you know "We will pump you up!" - and it has a clever
ring to it. ;-)

So, that's it. That's all I know. HTH.
Bob.Kalbaugh - who truly misses XRAY magazine :(
BTW - [ Scrool; To feverishly scroll a web page, in search of the info you
are drooling for.] - Obvious afterthought to my blatant typo. arghhh!
