problem with applets in osx

I was having a problem with the OSX Toolbar Scripts crashing when run from the finder. Now, I know the problem isn't limited to Toolbar Scripts. It's all scripts saved as applications from within the OSX Script Editor, whether saved on my machine or another machine (even apple's own). I tried a simple script in the OSX Script Editor. It worked. I saved it as an application - it didn't work. I ran classic and did same in the Classic Script Editor, saving as OSX Applet. It worked in OSX from the Finder. So, perhaps there is a problem with the runtime portion of AppleScript in OSX that doesn't recognize properly applets saved from the OSX Script Editor? I tried unsuccessfully logged in as other users, so it shouldn't be a Finder.plist corruption, unless there is a system-wide plist for Finder.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Any ideas as to what's going on? I've tried re-installing OSX (without re-formatting) and it still doesn't work.
