Aliases

Hi all,

I would like to handle aliases a) without telling the Finder at any cost and b) without bloated osaxen AFAP.

So my questions are:
- is it possible to tell if an item is an alias without 'info for'? 'info for' works well but it also gets the size of the item, which can take some unecessary time. I know there is a checkmark to tell if an item is an actual file or an alias, just as something like Resedit shows it. I would just like to be able to read that checkmark.

- is it possible to get the content of an alias without actually resolving it? I would like to know if the original of the alias is a file or a folder, and the name of this file. I don't need to know if the original is still there.

Side question: I haven't been able to use Satimage's 'alias description' or understand the point of it.

Thanks,

Serge
