The screen size relates to hardware and the desktop window relates to a
clipping region which limits where programs can draw. Or something like
that.

There are some things for which a point (0,0) would be the upper left hand
corner pixel under the menu bar. Other things, like icons and windows, can
have a (0,0) at the upper most left hand corner of the screen. They can
draw from there, even though the will be eclipsed by the menu bar. Or
something like that. This stuff goes all the way back to the original 128K
MAC.

Even if the Apple Script terminology isn't obvious, it makes sense that both
values would be available.

Can you provide a sample of what your referring to ?
