Shane Stanley & Steve Harley have made positive comments about a QuarkXPress

in tagging?
i suppose you've reviewed Em Software's sales points at
<
http://emsoftware.com/products.html#Xtags>
so you probably understand that XTags is basically an
extension of the XPress Tags functionality. you need to
look at your specific needs. if XPress Tags handles all of
them, there may be little value to XTags (though XTags can
be a little easier to work with). for me the crucial factor
was XTags' ability to create inline picture boxes.
i've used only a minority of XTags capabilities. i don't
know everything XTags can do that XPress Tags can't.
depending on your workflow, you may get more use from Em's
XData than from XTags. i've used XData for many workflows,
but XTags for exactly one: i use XTags to assist with
dynamically creating XData "prototypes" in a system i
created that builds directory layouts from scratch based
on measurements and style descriptions.
also consider the learning curve, which is small if your
needs are simple, and moderate for complex tasks if you
know XPress well and have done a bit of software
development and/or scripting of XPress.
XTags & XData are scripting tools, but AppleScript itself
is only a minor aspect of them. if you'd describe your
typical tasks off-list i'll give you an opinion of whether
Em's tools would help.
