Yes and yes. SMI (Smile's sophisticated cousin) uses them a lot. For
instance, SMI's 2D-geometry library uses "objects" such as:

{class:straight line, origin:{1.234,5.678}, angle:0.99}
--------------------

(this is the simplest one)
