While it isn't a basic guide to scripting terms, I did find that Bill
Briggs's Maccentral columns had some great stuff about OOP, beginning at..
http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/0002/09.briggs.shtml which has really
the best simple explanation of the object model of applications that you
would hope to find. That is a step towards being able to program that way,
though the two are somewhat different, of course.
(you can find a list of all the columns at
http://maccentral.macworld.com/columns/briggs.shtml )
and in one of the columns about OOP he links to another more interesting
analysis of how companies could save themselves loads of hassle by writing
more object-oriented dictionaries. It involves throwing pastries at family
members from moving objects. Damned if I can find it myself now.
The columns also have the immortal script in
http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/9907/14.briggs.shtml which consists of:
make my coffee
--go on, try it!
And a suitable comment afterwards.
And there's the invaluable
AppleScript: How to Save a Week Learning It
http://www.conknet.com/~mmagnus/applescript/
which I highly recommend.
Anyway, you might not find it a basic guide but if you read those columns
then you'll be well on the way to calling yourself a scripter.
best
Charles
