I have an auxiliary external hard drive that I use for backups of
critical systems. It has version 4.75 of Netscape Communicator on it.
My internal drive has version 4.78 on one of its volumes, but not on the
startup volume.
I forgot to shut down the external drive after doing my Sunday night
backups. When I started up Netscape Communicator today with my usual
script that "tells" it by name, to my surprise it started up the copy on
the external drive and not the more recently installed version from the
volume on the main drive.
Is there a particular order in which volumes are accessed for the
purpose of finding applications? It can't be alphabetical because
"Communications", on the main drive, comes before "Hard Disk", which is
the name of the volume on the external drive. I had assumed that the
volumes on the same drive as the startup volume would be queried first,
but apparently this isn't the case.
