I really don't see what the big fuss is about not wanting to use Akua
Sweets.

The functionality that you gain by having Akua Sweets installed on your
machines is huge. It certainly solves the problem of detecting CDs better
than any other solution I've seen here. Personally, I wouldn't dream of
scripting without Akua Sweets - it's indispensable.

And really, just how hard is it to copy a single scripting addition file
into the Scripting Additions folder?

You could even have the script check to see if Akua is installed and if not
copy the scripting addition from the script's own folder into the Scripting
Additions folder and then ask the user to restart.
