I think if we could - as part of the standard additions - make what
appear to be "real" applications, then AppleScript would blossom
exponentially. I have and use FaceSpan, but it has so many oddities and
bugs that it's not the answer it should be. AppearanceOSAX is good but
stops short of the "real application feel" (switching processes is the
biggest part of this, the second is having buttons that act on or update
the window/dialog without dismissing it) I got as far with dialog
director as seeing thet it required programmer's osax and resedit and I
ran the other way in a hurry.
IMHO, Apple needs to upgrade display dialog to at least the level of
appearanceOSAX, and add the ability to create an "application" version of
scripts that can instantiate menus and windows, carry it's own
type/creator and be placed in the background by the user at runtime.
(and I'd be glad to be shown how to do these things with "vanilla"
applescript or a single osax, preferably free.)
