you're right about the file names - it seems i can include \ in all but
one file (the one i was trying of course!). and you can use the forward
slash in file names, it throws up an error if you try to do it to a
folder. anyhow, i inspected bbedit further and found a way to assign
keyboard shortcuts - for all interested use the "set key" function off
the floating scripts window (if the window is not open, select it from
the scripts menu).

is there a way in os x to assign a keyboard shortcut to a script? in
9.x, you could name a file to end with \Letter so that when the script
was in an application's scripts folder (such as bbedit) the script
would
be available via a keyboard shortcut (command + letter). in os x you
cannot include \ in a file name. is there another way to do this in x?
That depends totally on the application which implements shortcuts for
its
attached scripts in a script folder. (Outlook Express and Entourage
also use
the backslash plus some other characters.) . There is no problem with \
backslash, by the way. it's the forward slash / you can't use for file
names
in OS X.
