Show/Hide a Package in OS9x

Is it possible to tell the Finder to
1_ < show package 'x' >
2_ perform some scripted steps on the expanded Package contents
3_ < hide package 'x' >

Having looked at the Finder's Dictionary in OS9x I'm stumped as to the
specifics for item (1) and (3)

I'm likely missing something obvious

any insights are appreciated
