I'm in total agreement with the sentiments about ASLG.

As for Scriptable Text Editor:

You'll also find there the companion disk to "AS Handbook" (in fact you may have
to d/l that to get Scriptable Text Editor).

It's very old but perfect for learning on (remember to keep it in the same folder
as Script Editor to start with!).
