The only thing they have that closely resembles AppleScript right now
is: VBA - Visual Basic for Applications. So far, the only products I
know of that have this integration are all MS made. Their Office
products can all "talk" to one another via this language which is a
subset of VB itself. It is very powerful, but that's also its downside.
Because its so robust, its more difficult (IMO) than AppleScript to
grasp. There are products that offer automation through the use of DCOM
which is the use of an object library. That object library can be used
with any VB capable environment - including asp. The only product I
know of that uses it is: Cleaner 5. I'm sure there are others, but my
world is limited to multimedia development. .net is of the same school
of thought; which to use highly portable objects across applications.
The only truly portable and cross-platform scripting language I know of
is PERL. I've never had the pleasure. But I do know developers that
can't imagine life without. Maybe if all applications had the ability
to talk to PERL, we'd have a standard and truly cross-platform method.
