*Sigh*
OS X really is a curate's egg. And the good parts and bad parts are so
mixed up that it is almost impossible to use it without getting at least
a taste of bad egg.
My current irritation is that when Finder windows in icon view are set to
'keep arranged by date', the most recent files appear last - instead of
first, as in OS 9.x and earlier. How useless. Now I have to scroll down
to the bottom of full folders to get at that most recent file, instead of
having it there at the top.
There's nothing in the Finder's AS dictionary, even in the many 'not
available yet' sections that will let me reverse this default display
order, but perhaps there's a shell script command that will do it? Please
will someone post it and end my misery if one exists.
Another related niggle is that aliases in Finder Windows seem to keep
updating their modification dates when I haven't done anything to the
originals or the aliases. It's not an AS issue, but if anyone here knows
why this stupid thing happens, please let me know.
Back when I was enduring the purgatory of Windows, the most useful books
on my shelf were the 'Windows Annoyances' series. The glory of the Mac in
OS 9 and earlier was that there weren't any annoyances to speak of. Not a
whole book's worth, at any rate. But with X I think it would run to a 10
volume set.
Feelin' grumpy.
Camilla
