Various scripting solutions have been presented, which make sense if this
need is in the middle of a script.
If *you*--the human--select something in Finder and want its path in the
Terminal window, drag the thing to the Terminal window. Does it work with
bit-8-set characters (or even wilder Unicode characters) in the name? I
have no idea...
...and the answer is "No."
/Users/john/Desktop/AS_9_1.8.2b3_Release_Notes\ copy.pdf
(copied from Terminal). I had modified the c in copy to be c with cedilla,
and the cedilla appears to have been lost (there was a beep).
If it hurts, don't do it. (That is, I seldom name a file with a non-ASCII
character...this file may be my first in Mac OS X, going back to March 24,
2001.)
