My policy about this is "let the user know what are you doing only if
necessary". It is suppossed [s]/he downloaded your script after reading
something about it and what it will do for her/him.
Usually an applet/droplet works better and faster if it runs in the
foreground. This is a demonstrated experience working with apps such as the
Finder or FileMaker (like Shane told us).
So, I renew the "let the user know only if necessary". Of course, if the
user _must_ see "cell 4", then show it and ask him.
