Controlling Audio CD with Applescript?

Does anybody know of a way to simply control Audio CD's with Applescript?

I can use itunes, but that appears like overkill and can be slow to load. I used to use KeyQuencer which was very quick and simple, but it locks up now that I have two CD players connected to my computer, and will not be supported on OS-X anyway. And the old AppleCD Audio Player does not appear to be scriptable.

I cannot find any commands (e.g. in Standard Additions) that control CD's, but perhaps there is some non-obvious method that I'm missing.
