Somewhat OT but related- Perl Scripts in Script Menu

I have been trying to get a Perl script running in the Script Menu - mainly
just to see it happen and to sometime use Perl's text handling.
Has anyone successfully done this? I have not found any documentation on it.
Is there a special handler or some other but that is required?
