Try looking at the scripting dictionary for URL Access Scripting. You can download html content to a file and then read it into a variable.

Can anyone tell me how I can read the html text from a web-site into an Applescript variable without using or launching a web-browser?
I've been looking through the Standard Scription Additions.osax
dictionary, and it looks like it _might_ be possible with one of the
commands from the "Internet suite" section, however I'm unsure of the
syntax. "Open location" isn't what I'm after, because that launches a web-browser, so would URL, Internet address, or web-page be of use?
