Looking at the Update command in the dictionary:
update: Update the display of the specified object(s) to match their
on-disk representation
It makes sense that the window would have to be open for update to work.
Display implies that the folder is open and it's contents visible. This
still leaves us with the problem of opening a folder and updating it
every time we write to a closed folder.
