Nope, shell scripting will be gradually swallowed by AppleScript.

For example, I'm currently using AppleScript to send commands to Windows via ssh and the "do shell script" osax. It's pretty cool and save me from having to actually touch the Windows box and get cooties on my dainty little fingers.
