One suggestion is ->
tell application "Finder" to version
--> 10.1.2
I'm using AS 1.8.3 in Mac OS X v10.1.5 and IIRC this will be less
than 10 for the OS 9 Finder but
since I'm not in OS 9 I can't readly check it.
The problem with the Finder version in X is that it's not correct. As
you noted, you get 10.1.2 when you're actually running 10.1.5. So the
concordance between Finder version and OS version is now gone. You're
going to get the right version if you use the gestalt code I just
posted.
