I blame Eudora. It has event handling "issues." A fellow who knows said that there were numerous event loops in Eudora, making it impossible to handle some events if they were received at a "bad" time. That could account for this sort of behavior.

Another notion is that some other process is compiling in the background and sending the "get terminology" event that you are seeing.

However, your script runs fine from Script Debugger 3 on X with Eudora 5.1.1 here. Of course I only did it a couple of times and none of my windows were named your names, so it closed all of them except for the front one.

Ah well, I tried changing the names so that some of my windows stayed open, but it made no difference. It worked fine, so long as I spelt my mailbox window names correctly. ;)
