When I run this in smile
display dialog "Enter x, type return, enter x, click OK." default
answer "" buttons {"Thinking", "Don't Cancel", "OK"} with icon 1
set x to text returned of result
x
The smile console window reads
{text returned:"xx", button returned:"OK"}
"xx"
