Well now I am pretty sure it is...
/ScriptingAdditions/StandardAdditions.osax/Contents/MacOS/StandardAdditions
... (open the package with the control key) -- that is the problem.
So far as I can tell Script Editor.app is the same old geyser, wheras
SA.osax boasts the version 1.8.3.
The great news in that while I assiduously protected th AppleScript
folder, I forgot all about those osaxes, so they've been over-written
and I doubt if theres any option on the CD to install just
AppleScript, so unless someone can make available the old osax that
did work properly, then I'd need to install OS X on a separate
partition just to get this measly little item.
The things is that whether it's a bug or a feature it's a damned
nuisance because it means you can't write a script and know how the
dialog is going to behave for other people for years to come.
