1.7 is terrible, terrible. It may be Script Editor 1.7 but AS 1.8.1 that you
have. (1.8.1 came with OS 10.1.2, so you probably have it in your 10.1.5.
1.8.1 isn't too bad.) You must ditch 1.7 if you do have it. 1.8.3 is
excellent - very few bugs, relatively speaking. This dd one is livable with,
with a decent workaround.
The BIG thing for you is that 1.8.3 has excellent Unicode support; you can
use text item delimiters in Unicode and it works. File names (except for
Western European DISK names with diacritics) also work in Unicode, without
needing the Finder. And you won't crash, either. 1.7 was a disaster, change
now and you'll be happy. You can do it via Software Update. Even if you have
1.8.1 you'll find 1.8.3 an excellent improvement. "x\rx" in dd is not so
bad...
