Could anyone give me a few concrete examples of how they're using mount

it's fine under X.
I keep getting errors -5016 (no server) and -3170 (bad endpoint).
IIRC, the -5016 error is due to the inability to "ping" the AFP
server you are trying to mount. Normally, the Appleshare client
attempts to verify the existence of the Appleshare server with a
ping. If you have a firewall that blocks pings, then that is the
problem. If it doesn't get a ping response, it assumes the server
does not exist.
You can test this by using the WhatRoute tool is OS 9 to try and ping
the AFP server. This tool is not installed by default, but you can
install it from the CD, or download it from
<

(that's an old link, try google if it doesn't work, or use ping under OSX)
If you can't "ping" the AFP server from that machine, then you need
to install the Appleshare Client Setup tool on your computer.

Once you have the tool installed:
1) Select "Network" from the Pulldown menu
2) Deselect "Verify TCP Address with Ping"
I hope this helps. I have no idea what the -3170 error is.
