I have a question for the group about scripting FileMaker Pro:
I need to set up a database that will track the backup for a graphics
production house (many, many files every day). The backup will be
done on a PC w/alpha processor and the software that will be
used, IMHO, is terrible. It hardly tracks any information and even
loses the info about which tape files are on after a fixed amount of
time! This combined with the desire to track other job information
is why I will be creating a FMP database to log everything,
including what tapes/DVDs the actual files are archived on. The
input of all this data will be scripted.
My question is about how to store the folder structure of the files. I
can always just store the absolute path for each file in a text field,
but I was wondering if anyone had any better ideas.
One problem with just storing the absolute path with each file is
when searching, I will want to have the users be able to "see" the
folder structure. I'm guessing I'll have to accomplish this with AS
and parse the paths back to a heirarchy, but I'm not really looking
forward to that.
Ideas?
Thanks in advance.
