Mac to Linux

Hi everyone
I have a small network of Apple computers (OS9.2). The file server however
is a LinuxBox running RedHat 7.3. I use this machine for the Apache web
server, PHP and MySQL to develop database driven websites. The server also
acts as an internet gateway for the Apples on the network. My question is
this: Is it possible to write an AppleScript which will invoke the modem
dialup script on the LinuxBox? The dialup script is a shell script which is
invoked by typing "inet", to disconnect there is a keyboard command "control
c". The Macs and the LinuxBox communicate directly using TCP/IP and HTTP.
This is probably quite simple in OS X where you can set up a remote terminal
but can it work in 9.2?
Thanks
Regards
Chris
