Sheesh. That's just that poorly formed sentence I wrote. Of course the Finder version is correct. What I should have said was that the Finder version isn't correct if what you're looking for is the system version. They are not in version lock-step.



It's the version of the Finder. As others have pointed out recently, the Finder is not the OS, despite belief to the contrary.

I've never mistaken the two as the same. The Finder is just an application, as was very clear when I used to boot into a system partition with Virtual PC with no Finder at all (in fact, Virtual PC was renamed Finder).
