- Thread-topic: Internet Explorer 5.1 won't retain helper pref?
InternetConfig is considered a legacy technology by Apple in OS X. They
are no longer actively developing it, and they are encouraging
developers to find alternatives. Unfortunately, Apple hasn't provided a
good alternative. Launch Services in OS X provides some overlap, but it
is not a superset of IC.
Our focus right now is getting the next major release of IE done, and
make the investments there to address many of the issues that people
have been experiencing with IE 5.x.

It seems the IE guys haven't yet figured out how to enable applications
in
that dialog. They also haven't figured to tell you that this dialog is
therefore a misleading charade ... However ...
1/ Hit "cmd-;" (prefs)
2/ Go down to "receiving files: and select "file helpers". Click on
"Extension mime-type" to sort the list into some kind of order.
Now comes some more insanity ... It is sorted into three alphabetic
lists so
you can't navigate it by key press.
3/ So, skip over the first set of a-z file types, then keep slowly
scrolling
down until you see the tiff types (there are about 4 different versions
(which should be grouped into one in any rational system, but which
aren't).
4. Open these and either set quicktime to view it for you, or if you
really
want it to open in a separate app, then select that application.
Cheers,
tim
