I'd rather you spend the time on other things myself. For instance, could you add something like <Command-Shift-O> for the "Open Dictionary..." menu item in Script Editor and possibly get the dictionary list dialog to remember its size and placement?

There are already bugs filed on both of these.

Can I chime in on this? More often than not I just want to open the Standard Addition or the Finder's dictionary. I hate to get the list of all scriptable apps, because it takes ages to load and on top of that you have to mouse through the list to find them (you can't just type s or f to move there). There really should be menu entries for these two and/or improved navigation in the app list.

Chris Nebel (casually anticipating this post by several hours):

There are also bugs filed on the speed, type-select, and an improved
paradigm for dictionary viewing. (However, the last one doesn't have
any very specific suggestions, so if you can dream something up, send
it in.) So far, none of this takes me by surprise. : )

On a related note, I did a fresh install for 10.2. Then I proceeded to reinstall some things from backup. It happened that I invoked the dictionary dialog when the backup CD was mounted and then there were double listings of quite a few applications. I found that confusing.

So what I'd like to see for an enhancement to the "Open Dictionary..." menu item is that would become hierarchical thusly:

Choose Dictionary ->
By Application List... /*as now*/
By Browsing... /*current Browse button*/
From Applications Folder... /* ultra-fast list*/
From System Dictionaries... Cmd-Shift-O /* Standard Adds, Finder,System Events, etc */

This may necessitate a few extra menu command keys..

Similarly, I find "choose application" implementation a bit awkward. I understand the reasoning but it doesn't seem natural. I think that it should be "choose (from) application list" and "choose application" should be a regular Nav Manager dialog with an application filter. Actually remarkably similar to "choose file of type {"APPL", "appe", etc}.
