What's more, they work on closed folders. They should also work on
*any* folder, including normally invisible Unix-y ones and your Desktop
folder, but I haven't actually tried that.

Hmmmmm. If you can put a folder action on the Desktop folder you could probably implement the missing "Put Away" command as an AppleScript!
