OS 10.2.2 (6F21) AS 1.9
path to temporary items from local domain
--> alias "OS X HD:private:tmp:501:Temporary Items:"
path to temporary items from user domain
--> alias "OS X HD:private:tmp:501:Temporary Items:"
But that's not in my user domain - it's the local, computer-wide, domain.
In the meantime, "Find" in the Finder tells me that there is another folder
here:
"OS X HD:berkowit:Temporary Items:501:Temporary Items:"
The first Temporary Items in my User folder (berkowit) is now visible,
although it first appears to have nothing within it. Back in Script Editor
alias "OS X HD:berkowit:Temporary Items:"
ERRORS: File alias OS X HD:berkowit:Temporary Items: wasn't found.
If I double-click on the inner folder in the Finder's Search Results, and
then switch the resulting empty folder to column view, I get to see the
invisible folder
"OS X HD:berkowit:Temporary Items:501:Temporary Items:"
It was last modified in Oct. 2001, so it doesn't seem to be used by
anything. The other temp folder on my root disk "OS X
HD:private:tmp:501:Temporary Items:" has Word work files which I didn't put
there myself, so it is used by other applications.
What's going on? Does this "private:" folder on the root HD somehow belong
to my user although it's not inside "Users:berkowit:" ? Or do all users
share the same computer-wide temp folder? This is quite perplexing. Could
individual users perhaps not have permissions for the computer-wide "OS X
HD:private:tmp:501:Temporary Items:"? Then it wouldn't be safe to have a
script open for access and write to a file in 'path to temporary items
folder'.
