Thanks for the help.
I did not make myself clear.
Bummer that Sys Pref not scriptable.
I have no problem establishing the connection(s), or personally as the
human, knowing which one it is.
All the connections work fine. I am not trying to establish the connection
or having problems with the connections.
Rather, I want a 3True Location Manager2, one that sets up the rest of my
computer preferences, options. Apps, features, etc., based upon the
location.
Sys Prefs->Locations Manager will not accomplish what I am after.
Here is what I am trying to accomplish (as much as is possible)
If (Computer connected at one place...say work)
THEN BEGIN
Set default printer to one of the printers at work
Launch one set of applications
etc.
etc.
END
ELSE
IF (at MyHome)
THEN BEGIN
Set default printer
Launch a different set of apps.
Set Date & Time to Network time server
etc.
Etc.
END
ELSE
IF (At friends house - their network)
THEN BEGIN
Set default printer to FriendsPrinter
launch a different set of apps.
Etc.
END
All of this is predicated upon having the computer (through AS?) figure out
what connection it has, where.
The given it has determined where it is at then set up of computer etc. to
do stuff at that location.
For example, at work we do not have access to internet (again not a set up
or configuration issue, it is just we do not have permission)
So what I can do at work is different than what I can do at home and vice
versa.
Since, Sys Pref not scriptable is there some other way I could have the
computer figure out what connection it has.
I mean I go home boot up and it automatically detects & connects to my
airport base station.
How do I capture that fact?
When I go to work, plug in LAN line, it 3knows2 that line is active (e.g.
Can launch Entourage) and get work email no problem so it must 3know2 the
LAN line is active and knows work server is on the other end.
So again, how do I capture that information so that I can instruct computer
to act upon it (e.g. Since LAN line is active 3I must be at Mike9s
workplace, so I9ll set default printer to the one at work2)
There has got to be a way to do that.
