In order to write AS Studio applications, you need Mac OS X 10.1.1 or newer
and the December 2001 Developer Tools. I believe you get these if you buy
the Mac OS X retail product. I'm not sure how to get the December 2001
Developer Tools CD if you join Apple Developer Connection now. Joining as an
"online member" is free, so you can do that and hunt around for it. I
downloaded the CD in segments when it came out, using a 56K modem; all it
takes is patience and a decent phone line. ADC mailed the CD for free a
little later.
It comes with a pretty good volume of Inside Mac OS X in PDF format, and a
number of example projects.
Subscribe to Apple's applescript-studio mailing list. It's very active, with
a good mix of newby questions and knowledgeable answers. And read the
archives.
Read my article at page 6 of the January issue of MacTech Magazine for my
personal opinions on the product.
Be prepared to read some Cocoa developer technical documentation when you
get stuck.
