John,
You say "OS 9". That's not good enough. I have found huge differences amongst
the various incarnations of 9, with 9.1 being the best. Under other versions
of the OS, mount volume has been decidedly flaky and unreliable for me. With
MacOS 9.1, it "Just Works(TM)".
