Not hard to make one that's language independent. However, the thing to
remember about this method is that it is not especially fast: deliberately
throwing an error and trapping and massaging the resulting string takes
time. Useful when no other alternatives are available, but in this case
there seems to be no shortage of options; nor of debate about their
relative merits.<g>
