Is there a simple way to send an eMail directly from an AppleScript in OS X without using an email program?

other than the obvious examples of shell commands, i wanted
to mention that if you do a lot of Internet-oriented
scripting, UserLand Radio has verbs for all kinds of stuff
like this. it's not the easiest thing to learn, but now that
Radio X has been released for $40 you could get a lot of
mileage out of it as a complete TCP/IP environment as well
as for doing basic AppleEvents (and a lot of other things).
